Short biography

Carlos Alemán Llansó is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) since 2009. He has led the Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering (IMEM) group since its formation, in 2003. Currently, his research focuses mainly on four lines: 1) Electrochemical sensors and devices for regenerative medicine through controlled release of drugs; 2) Flexible bio-organic supercapacitors; 3) Catalysts based on polarized hydroxyapatite for the fixation of N2 and CO2; and 4) Polymers applied to nanotechnology.

During his academic career, he has published more than 620 scientific articles in international journals and has an h-index of 56 (google scholar). He has directed more than 25 doctoral theses and has been principal investigator in a large number of competitive projects and agreements with companies. Likewise, he has several granted and licensed patents.

He is currently Associate Researcher at IBEC (Institute of BioEngineering Center) and Director of the Laboratory of the Center for Environmental Sciences (LCMA) of the UPC. He has won various awards, including the ICREA Academy Award (2015-2020; 2008-2013), the I3 Research Intensification Award (2007-2010) and the Distinction from the Generalitat of Catalonia for the promotion of university research.
