Short biography

Elaine Armelin is full professor at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC, Barcelona) and research staff of the Innovation in Materials and Molecular (Bio)engineering Group (IMEM), in Spain. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 1995 and Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry in 1997, at Universidade de São Paulo (USP, Brazil). In 1997 she moved to Barcelona to perform her PhD studies in Polymer Science, at the Department of Chemical Engineering (DEQ, UPC). She has participated in several national and international projects, standing out that related to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, European Regional Development Funds and that financed by the Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR). Her activities are reflected by the dissemination of more than 150 publications in indexed journals (h-index: 35, Scopus), 4 patents, above 70 congress participation and 10 invited lecturers. Currently, she is the head of the corrosion research line in IMEM’s Group, leading projects of knowledge-transfer and services to public and private companies; and she is the co-leader (with Institut Català d’Investigació Química, ICIQ, Tarragona) of the project P1-Light 3D (BASE 3D), to the design of new polymeric resins for 3D printing technologies with UV light sources. Her current work focuses on the developing of hybrid materials with applications in biosensors, biomedical devices, and on the achievement of eco-friendly coatings and adhesives to metal and plastic substrates.
