Short biography

José Ignacio Iribarren Laco is a faculty member at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where he has been teaching and conducting research since 1989. He holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Zaragoza, obtained in 1984, and completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the UPC (ETSEIB) in 1996, cum laude. He began his research career in 1985 at the Department of Polymer Science and Technology at the University of the Basque Country (EHU).

His research initially focused on the physicochemical and structural characterization of polymers. Since 2005, his research has centered on metallic corrosion, conductive polymer-modified coatings, and their application as anticorrosive materials and additives. He has published around 50 scientific papers, participated in 12 research projects, and holds three patents. He has also collaborated extensively with private companies, public administrations, and public enterprises, including Barcelona City Council, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), and TMB, and has contributed to the evaluation and auditing of R&D projects in collaboration with AIDIT-UPC.

Throughout his academic career, he has supervised numerous undergraduate and master's projects and one doctoral thesis, while teaching courses in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Engineering. His teaching has been recognized by the UPC for outstanding quality over three consecutive five-year periods. He has also held academic management positions, including Deputy Director for Economic Affairs at ETSEIB and Secretary of the Department of Chemical Engineering.
